What might it look like if we saw more of heaven on earth? Restoration and renewal in every home? People worshipping on every street? The Garden is a family of House Churches.  Each House Church is committed to seeing their simple gathering become a key environment for experiencing life in the Kingdom and discipleship. Garden Church is not a ‘new model’ of church.  It is simply a reconnection with the picture of the church in Acts 2.42. It is a resource to release simple church in the home, to provide an accountability network and support for local mission.  We work alongside and in partnership with other churches and denominations. Every House church is united by five core Biblical values and six simple practices

HOW DO THEY WORK?

We believe that small is big.  House Churches are zero/low cost and so are sustainable and replicable on a mass scale.   They are therefore 'revival ready' and take seriously the call in Ephesians 4 to develop the gifts and skills of God’s people because they are small enough to allow everyone to play.  Garden Church predominantly exists to serve the rural communities but the House Churches can exist in and around the City or on housing estates where there might be no gathered church community. Every House Church falls under the vision, values, and accountability structures of the Garden Church which is under the Mitre Benefice, in partnership with the Church Revitalisation Programme and a growing team of Elders.

WEEKLY MEETING

Each House Church meets weekly and is led by a few of our House Church Pastors.

In these simple house gatherings, we come together to share a meal, worship, read scripture, pray for one another, and live as family and pursue mission. House Church is a place to participate in being the church.  Every House Church seeks to multiply each year.  This is something we celebrate and every House Church has a Pastor In Training ready for this multiplication.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47

MONTHLY

Once a month the Network gathers at a ‘pop up’ location as a collective of Houses in order to celebrate as one body, like a family reunion.  It is an opportunity to enjoy worshipping together, encourage and love one another, inspire youth and children, hear teaching and share a potluck meal. These gatherings are a good way to find out more about being family on a mission.

The values and practices are built on one simple question: What Does God Want?

If we do what we really believe God wants and no one else wants it, or follows it then this is still “success”. ‘What Does God Want?’ is answered though our best reading of Scripture and through prayer.
